Abigail J'adores...

I think these wooden birds from Sanna Annuka are so pretty and charming, and I especially love the story behind them...

"In Karelia there was an ancient belief in the Sielulintu or Soul bird. The Sielulintu was thought to deliver the soul to newborn babies and also to transport the soul to the afterlife at the moment of death. It was believed the Sielulintu protected a persons soul at it's most vulnerable; when dreaming, and it was tradition to keep a carved wooden bird by the bedside to keep the soul safe during sleep."

These limited edition lovelies would make the perfect addition to my bedside table - and I could certainly always do with all the help I can get to soothe my sleep. Seems like the perfect excuse to indulge to me! ;)

Oh Christmas Tree!

Well!

We finally put up our Christmas tree last night. We were so tired, but it was fun and it looks tres lahvely if I do say so myself. Can't wait to photograph it all lit up tonight!

I have been waiting since last Christmas to use these amazing decorations - who doesn't want cloves of garlic, corn cobs and potatoes hanging on their tree!?? Mini Gherkins and embellished faux Faberge-stylee eggs that come in their own egg box??!

Exactly! They rock ;)

Thanks so much for all your abigail*ryan orders so far!! We are packaging and posting at the speed of light! Keep 'em coming!!

Stuff I like...

If, like me, you have a sweet tooth and a love of all things japanese, you might enjoy one of my favourite blogs "Sweet Travel".

Sadly it hasn't been updated since August of the year (I do hope the author is ok), but, beautifully written, and wildly evocative, I find it completely fascinating...and there is more than enough information in the archives to be getting on with!

For a long time I have been desperate to travel to Japan (the thought of the massive, and, i'm sure, super-budget-economy long haul flight putting only the slightest of dampeners on things) but reading about these wonderful sweets and cakes has added another level of excitement about the possibilities... I'll make it there one day!

Until then, I hope you, as I do, enjoy reading about "matcha", "mochi" and "dango"!

Please note, all images used have come from Sweet Travel.

Ideas for Every Day...

One of my favourite parts of our new shop is our Ideas for Every Day page... we were so excited by all the other things you can do with your tea-towels {apart from dry dishes!} we wanted to share just a few of our favourites...

I think wrapping a nice bottle of wine in a tea-towel makes for a lovely gift to take to dinner - the wine will likely be drunk that evening, but the tea-towel is something the hostess can keep for long after!

Having JUST gotten a little dining table in my flat - I am keen to keep it nice! The extra large size of our tea-towels makes them the perfect little cover up... we like to lay two across the table, almost like runners - and they look amazing when they match, and really cool when they don't, too! ;)

We have all wrapped a loaf cake in a tea-towel when it's cooling or to keep it fresh - it's terribly old fashioned and makes you feel somewhat like a domestic goddess ;). I love the idea of taking something you have baked as a gift, and, like with the wine, why not give it wrapped in a tea-towel so they have something to keep afterwards too... as memory of the yumminess!

We hope you like the idea's for the every day too!

Thank you SO much to your warm response over our launch - we are so happy to have so much good feedback and thank you to all those who have ordered so far! We hope you will love Gifting abigail*ryan this coming Holiday season...
